Challenge

Developing a strong mentorship program that supports novice teachers is our highest priority.  In order to do this we must find a way to provide mentors with effective professional development that supports the growth and confidence of novice teachers and mentors, which in turn will improve teacher retention and impact student achievement.

Alliance for Excellent Education (2014) states:

​

  • Roughly half a million U.S. teachers either move or leave the profession each year—attrition that costs the United States billions of dollars annually, according to a new report from the Alliance for Excellent Education.

  • To curb turnover—especially among new teachers—the report recommends a comprehensive induction program comprised of multiple types of support, including high-quality mentoring, common planning times, and ongoing support from school leaders.
